WhatsApp Block Checker
No tool can confirm that someone blocked you on WhatsApp. Here is what a phone number lookup really verifies, and what a profile picture that stopped loading actually means.
Look up a numberCan any tool check whether someone blocked you?
No. WhatsApp publishes no "you have been blocked" signal — not in the app, and not to any API. A block is applied per contact and is only ever visible as an absence: a picture that no longer loads, a profile that shows less than it used to. Any site that answers with a confident yes or no is guessing from the same absence you already saw, and dressing the guess up as a result.
What a lookup can do is tell you, from outside your own account, what the number publishes to everyone. That turns one unanswerable question into three answerable ones.
What the lookup does verify
- Whether the number has an active WhatsApp account — live, from the number alone, without saving it as a contact.
- The publicly visible profile picture, in the full resolution WhatsApp exposes. You can also download the DP once it loads.
- The public About (bio) text — the short line next to the name. See the bio viewer for what that field holds.
- Whether it is a business account, and the business category it declares.
A free account covers 20 lookups a day. Past matches are browsable in the number database.
How to check a number
- Enter the phone number — Type the number with its country code into the checker on the home page.
- Run the lookup — The account's public profile is read live from WhatsApp, from outside your own account.
- Compare it with your chat — A public picture the lookup sees and your chat does not points at your account; nothing visible to either rules your account out.
What a missing profile picture actually means
A picture you can no longer see has more than one cause, and from inside your own chat they look identical:
- There is no picture. The account removed it, or never set one.
- The picture is not public. WhatsApp lets a user limit the profile photo and the About text to their contacts, or to nobody. Anyone outside that circle sees nothing.
- You were blocked. WhatsApp then hides the photo from your account specifically, while leaving it where its visibility setting put it for everyone else.
A lookup runs from outside your account, so it reads the first two cases directly: it reports whether a publicly visible picture exists at all. It cannot see what your account can see, which is why it can never close the third case on its own. What it gives you is the comparison:
- The lookup shows a public picture your chat does not. The photo exists and is public, so whatever is hiding it is specific to your account. A block is one explanation. It is not proof of one.
- The lookup shows no picture either. Nothing here points at your account: the number publishes no photo to anyone, blocked or not.
The same split applies to the About text. Neither outcome is a verdict, and we will not print one — but the second outcome rules your account out, which is usually the question people are really asking.
Why "block checker" apps cannot work
To answer the question properly, a tool would have to act as you, from your account, because the block exists only in that relationship. That means handing a third party your WhatsApp session — which puts the account itself at risk and still produces a guess at the end. Nothing legitimate can read a block out of a public profile.
If you want the person to stop contacting you, the block belongs on your side, where it is a setting rather than an inference: WhatsApp's own help page on blocking and reporting (opens in a new tab).
