WhatsApp link generator

Create a free WhatsApp click-to-chat link with your number and an optional pre-filled message. Copy the link for your website, email signature or social profile.

Enter your phone number and select “Generate WhatsApp link”. Your ready-to-copy URL will appear here.

The generator formats your number and message in this browser, without sending them to a lookup API. The generated URL contains both, so share it only where you want them visible. Opening it takes you to WhatsApp.

How to make a WhatsApp link

  1. Enter the number people should contact. Use its international form with the country code. For a local number, select that number’s country.
  2. Add an opening message if useful. A short prompt such as “Hi, I’d like a quote” gives the visitor somewhere to start.
  3. Generate and inspect the link. Check the displayed destination carefully. Copy the URL and try it yourself before adding it to your site.

What goes inside a wa.me link?

A basic link follows https://wa.me/NUMBER. The number includes its country calling code and uses digits without a plus sign or display punctuation. The optional text query parameter holds the encoded message.

The generator handles that encoding, including spaces, line breaks and symbols such as &. You can write the message normally; do not encode it yourself first.

Where to use your link

Place the URL behind a descriptive link such as “Ask us on WhatsApp” on your contact page. In an email signature, use your business name alongside the contact action so recipients know who will answer. On a social profile, keep the pre-filled message short enough to suit visitors arriving for different reasons.

A plain contact link is easiest to maintain. If your phone number changes, update every place you published it. Keep a small list of those placements so old links do not continue pointing visitors to the previous number.

Why is my WhatsApp link not working?

  • Check the country calling code. A local number without country context can point to the wrong destination. The phone number formatter shows the international version separately.
  • Check that the destination uses WhatsApp. Number formatting alone cannot verify an account.
  • Check the copied URL. Copy the complete result. Extra punctuation from an email or a truncated message can change the link.

Common questions

Does creating a link send a message?

No. Creating or copying the URL does not contact the destination. A visitor opens the chat and decides whether to send the message.

Do I need to save the number first?

Click to chat is designed to start a conversation without first adding the number to your contacts. The destination must have an active WhatsApp account.

Can I use emojis and multiple lines?

Yes. Enter them directly in the message field. The generator encodes them into the URL. Review the message in WhatsApp before publishing your link.

Is this the WhatsApp Business API?

No. This creates a contact URL. It does not automate sending, create message templates or provide an inbox. See our guide to profile APIs and the WhatsApp Business API for the distinction.
